LTFL Background and Ownership History
LTFL acquired this heavily-patinated IWC Pilot Spitfire from a gentleman who was its original and only owner. The watch was purchased from an authorised IWC retailer and served the owner well in his piloting endeavours. Overall, this bronze watch has been well cared for and shows no chips or signs of abusive wear. Please note: there is one minor superficial scratch on the sapphire crystal, approximately 3/8″ (about 10 mm) long, which is hard to see except at certain angles and in certain light. It runs roughly parallel to the 12-hour (9 o’clock) subdial, from around the middle of the gold chronograph seconds hand toward the 6 o’clock area (see close-up photo).
As is typical for bronze, the case and tang buckle have developed a natural patina from normal oxidation—an expected characteristic that many enthusiasts feel adds charm and character to bronze timepieces. The bronze IWC Pilot Spitfire is sold with LTFL’s full 1-year warranty, covering factory defects of the movement, case, strap, and tang buckle. This warranty does not extend to normal patina/oxidation or any changes in colour/finish of the case/tang buckle that occur naturally with bronze.

Heritage and Brand Origins
In 1868, American Florentine Ariosto Jones established the International Watch Company in Switzerland. His impetus was to combine American production expertise with Swiss artisanship, in effect to “capitalize” on each country’s strength and “knowhow” in these areas. The original focus of IWC’s watches related to navigation, but a later shift in that focus led IWC to become a “mainstay” in aviation-related timepieces. This change in focus has led IWC to highly-regarded development of other materials now used in timepieces, including titanium, bronze, and ceramics.
