A Jewelry Watch That Defined an Era

Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, and few houses have given watchmaking more recognizable shapes: the Santos in 1904, the Tank in 1917, and the Panthère de Cartier in 1983. The name comes from the panther that has run through Cartier’s jewelry since the early 1900s, and from the bracelet — dozens of small brick links that flex and pour over the wrist the way the animal moves. First-generation Panthère models like this one were built until 2004 and remain among the most collectible Cartier watches of the modern era. Cartier is today part of the Swiss luxury group Richemont.

Its exceptional condition at the time of purchase is proof of the care it received from its previous owner. This is the larger 29 mm case, which wears comfortably as a unisex piece and gives the Roman numeral dial room to breathe in a way the smaller sizes cannot.
It has been checked over and fitted with a new battery, and it is running and keeping time correctly. It comes to you complete with its original Cartier box and papers.

• Softly squared stainless steel case measuring 29 mm × 29 mm excluding the crown, or 29 mm × 40 mm including the lugs, and 8 mm thick
• Polished fixed stainless steel bezel with Cartier’s eight signature exposed screws
• Octagonal crown set with a blue cabochon
• Ivory dial with black Roman numerals, a railroad minute track and blued steel sword-shaped hands
• Sweep center seconds and a date aperture at 3 o’clock
• Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal over a solid stainless steel case back
• Swiss-made quartz movement, analog display, new battery fitted
• Cartier brick-link stainless steel bracelet on a concealed tri-fold clasp, 17 mm between the lugs
• Water resistant to 30 meters / 100 feet as originally specified
